Growing up on the banks of the Murray River my roots were nourished with firm values and a passion for changing the world around me for the better.
Growing up on the family business floor, I have fond memories of helping my mum dream up endless ways to prepare colourful and nutritious meals for the whole family.
From day dot, I have had a burning desire to raise people up in my life. Growing up, I understood that I was part of something greater than myself. I knew that through hard work, my intrinsic connection with helping other people and my humanitarian drive that I would leave a lasting legacy.
That legacy paved its foundations, in my early working years. Always committed to growing, learning and working incredibly hard, I secured a job at the local supermarket from the age of 12 and took on a hairdressing apprenticeship when I turned 16. This experience built resilience and a work ethic that has paid off.
Fast forward twenty years and I have been blessed with an accomplished career. I’ve worked my way through the senior ranks of Westpac, from bank teller through to Regional General Manager, managing a staff of 150. As a leader, I have excelled and become one of the top 3 regions, enjoying the highest employee engagement in the country.
“I know how to lead, inspire and bring out your very best”
But, results aren’t everything. I understand the value of community and relationships when it comes to building a career and a fulfilling life story.
Driven by my innate desire to help people, I have spent time working in remote Aboriginal communities and in Sri Lanka, working in an orphanage in Kurunrgala. These experiences have affirmed her ambition to make a difference in people’s lives. But they have also been my awakening. In 2018 I learned that child trafficking through orphanages is a global issue and it’s one that I’m now driven to put an end to. I am always driven to find a way to love, nurture and care for those around me and in underprivileged communities.
I’m a proud mama to two beautiful boys, Jed and Tom. Sleepless nights and distracted days spent with Scott (my husband) and our boys are what lights my fire. And yet, managing the balance between, mother, lover, daughter, friend and senior executive is one that continues to challenge and delight me. As a busy working mother, I know the juggle and struggle and the need for women to have a community around them.
I also know that not all those who wander are lost.
The path you chose hasn’t always been straightforward. No doubt it’s been peppered with highs (your children) and lows (struggling to re-enter the workforce).
